that’s an observation austin peay state university psychology major loren carmichael made in a blog about her summer 2018 peace corps internship in the u.s. capital.the memphis native spent the summer working with the peace corps’ counseling and outreach unit, which provides phone consultation to volunteers struggling with emotional health. and that’s where she got to write that blog for the washington center.
“olivia pope (a character in the show “scandal”) is famous for her beautiful, red-soled louboutin heels, but you will not see those walking around downtown,” loren writes. “everybody wears tennis shoes or flats.”

“before i came to austin peay, i was the type of person who never volunteered to do anything and never really took part in any leadership positions,” she said. “since being here, i have come out of my comfort zone, and i have loved every single minute of it.
